Formula and method

Net minutes = elapsed clock minutes − break minutes. If the end is earlier, it is treated as the following day.

Worked example

09:00 to 17:30 with a 30-minute break gives 8 hours, or 480 minutes.

What the result assumes

This is a clock-time calculation for intervals under 24 hours. Equal start and end times mean zero duration.

Common question

Does it handle overnight shifts?

Yes. For example 22:00 to 06:00 is eight hours before breaks. Date-specific daylight-saving changes are not modeled.
