Formula and method
Tiles = area × (1 + waste / 100) / tile area. Round tiles and boxes upward.
Worked example
20 m² with 60 × 60 cm tiles and 10% waste requires 62 tiles, or 16 boxes of four.
What the result assumes
This is an area estimate without grout spacing or layout optimization. Diagonal layouts and complex cuts may need more waste.
Common question
Why buy whole boxes?
Suppliers often sell complete boxes. The box result rounds upward so the purchase covers the estimated tile count.
