Formula and method
Pace = elapsed time / distance. Speed = distance / elapsed time.
Worked example
Running 5 km in 25 minutes is a 5:00 min/km pace and an average speed of 12 km/h.
What the result assumes
Pace is an average over the entered distance. It does not prescribe training intensity or predict medical outcomes.
Common question
Why is a smaller pace number faster?
Pace measures time per unit distance, so taking fewer minutes to cover the same distance means higher speed.
