Formula and method

Average depth = (shallow depth + deep depth) / 2. Volume = length × width × average depth.

Worked example

An 8 m × 4 m pool with water depths of 1 m and 2 m holds approximately 48 m³, or 48,000 liters.

What the result assumes

Assumes a rectangular pool with a uniformly sloping floor. Steps, benches, curves, and uneven slopes change the actual capacity.
