Formula and method

Paint liters = (wall area − openings) × coats / coverage. Cans = liters / can size, rounded up.

Worked example

40 m² of walls minus 4 m² of openings, with two coats at 10 m²/L, needs 7.2 L or three 2.5 L cans.

What the result assumes

Coverage depends on the paint and surface. Use the manufacturer’s coverage and allow separately for absorbent or textured walls.
