Formula and method

Ratio = width : height reduced by their greatest common divisor. New height = new width × original height / original width.

Worked example

1920 × 1080 has a 16:9 ratio. At a width of 1280 pixels, the matching height is 720 pixels.

What the result assumes

The suggested pixel height is rounded to the nearest whole pixel, which can introduce a tiny ratio difference.
